Carolina Children's Garden and Conservation Station Trading Post
Hey, kids!
Bring in a
natural object from home and trade it at the CCG/CS Nature Exchange.
Points will be awarded for each item you bring, and you can trade your
points for other natural objects to take home. Limit two items per visit.
The Nature Exchange is only open after programs at the CCG/CS when
the Educator is on duty.
What can I trade?
Natural objects from your backyard or your travels, including but not
limited to: rocks, seashells, seeds, fossils, antlers, dead insects, pressed
plants, a jar of sand, shed snake skins.
Do not bring
Objects that were collected from
the Carolina Children's Garden, Conservation Station, or from areas
(including state and national parks) that prohibit collecting. Do not
bring items that are regulated by local, state, and/or federal law,
including the feathers of non-game birds, bird eggs, and nests. Do not
bring live animals.
How are points assigned?
Items receive a baseline of 1 point each. Extra points
may be awarded for items that are especially interesting or rare. To raise
the point value of an object, bring in original research and projects about
your item, including artwork, poems, songs, stories, essays, dioramas,
speeches, and skits. The more you are able to tell us about your object and
the more creative your work, the more points you can earn. If possible, we
would love to keep a copy of your original work to display in the Garden and
on our website. All point assignments are made at the Educator's
discretion. Points may be traded immediately or hoarded to make a large
trade at a later date. Traders may not combine or share points.
